Kid Activities
-Baking soda and vinegar in various forms:
place a drop of food coloring on a spoon, cover it with baking soda and let
kids stir into a cup or muffin tin filled with vinegar. Place baking soda in a
small cookie sheet or pan and let kids use droppers or syringes to squirt
colored vinegar onto the sheet
-Baked cotton balls: mix 1 cup flour and one
cup water add food coloring if you want, roll cotton balls in mixture and bake
for 45 min at 300 degrees. Let the kids use a toy hammer to brake them open
-Cloud dough: mix 8 cups flour with 1 cup baby
oil. Makes a fun and moldable dough
-Bird eating worms: place small pieces of cut
up pipe cleaners on the floor and give each child a clothes pin to use as a
bird beak and pick up the “worms”
-Rainbow toast: color milk and have children
paint it onto a piece of bread then toast it and you have rainbow toast!
-Use shaving cream, pudding, finger paints, etc
to paint on a piece of paper-kids love to make their own creations! (also great
to do in the tub or outside)
-Gather rocks of various shapes and sizes, wash
and dry them and paint and then have an adult glue together to make cars,
animals, monsters, etc.
-Make sock puppets using old socks, markers,
pom pom balls, googly eggs, yarn, etc and put on a puppet show
-Let them help you bake some cookies
-Set up a station for them to wash their toys
with soap and water
-Place small toys in balloons, fill with water
and freeze. Then give kids squirt guns to try and melt the ice to free the
toys.
-Make superhero capes out of old T-shirts and
play superhero (boys love dressing up too!)
-Create your own stamps using foam shapes and
milk jug lids, juice lids, etc
-Place colored water in a small clear cup, an
empty cup in the middle and another cup with colored water on the side. Then
fold paper towels and place between the two cups of colored water, both opposite ends going into the empty cup
and watch the colored water get transferred
-Make fizzy paint by placing baking soda in
paint and then after the object is painted, squirt with some vinegar
-use masking tape to form a race track around
your house
-Place small objects in a brown paper bag and
have the kids use the sense of touch to try and guess what the objects are.
-Go on a color scavenger hunt where kids gather
anything they can find that’s green, then red, yellow, etc
-Place clear contact paper on a table or window
and allow the children to place different objects on to the sticky side-lots of
things will stick! Or draw a shape with a sharpie and give them cut up pieces
of tissue paper to place on the shape, then cover with more contact paper and
you have a “stained glass” effect
-Use leftover easter eggs strung on pipe
cleaners to make worms or snakes, add googley eyes for a fun effect
-Use boondoggle or craft string and let kids string on cheerios or
fruit loops
-Make “magic bottles” by using a clear, empty
water bottle. Fill with a few drops of glycerin and water, then place glitter
and small objects inside. Seal off tight by hot gluing the lid on.
- Get a bunch of stickers and then them stick
them on paper. Sounds simple, but kids love it!
-Play with playdough-can add glitter or small
beads, etc for a fun effect
-Make road/track pieces out of old jeans. Cut
into strips, paint yellow center lines and add Velcro on backs to stick to
carpet.
-Color rice or macaroni and glue onto paper to
make your own creations or use as a sensory tool and place in a bowl or bin and
give kids different things to play with it such as measuring cups, spoons,
toys, etc.
-Create your own unique T-shirts by having kids
color with crayons onto sandpaper (make sure to do the design backwards and
color pretty heavily) then have an adult take a t-shirt, place the sandpaper on
top and a paper towel on top of that and iron on.
-Poke holes in an old milk jug lid and fill the
jug with water and use as a summer water gun or to water flowers
-Place paint inside of a galloon size Ziploc
and seal thoroughly (can tape to table for younger kids). The kids will enjoy
mixing the colors with their fingers without the mess!
-Make side walk paint by mixing equal amounts
of cornstarch and water (1/2 cup corn starch, ½ c water) Place in muffin tin,
add food coloring and mix well. Give the kids paint brushes and let them at it!
Washes off easily!
-Warm up rocks in the oven (220 for 10 min)
then put on a stack of newspapers and give kids crayons to color the rock, just
remind them it’s hot!
-Place some grass seed in a cup of soil and the
kids will enjoy watching their grass grow! Can draw or make faces on cups and
you have a mini-chia pet!
-Use old screws, bolts, etc and have kids twist
them on and off
-Make your own lacing cards by punching holes
in cardboard shapes
-Place magnets on backs of popsicle sticks and
use on a metal cookie sheet or fridge for them to make shapes(can also be done
with Velcro)
-Give each child a big ball of shaving cream on
a plate, add a few drops of food coloring and all them to mix it. Tap a piece
of paper on top lightly then scrape off excess shaving cream and allow to dry-your
own stationary!
-Use paper plates to make masks
-Get an empty cardboard box and make one end
into an animal or person, cutting a hole out for the mouth. Then give the kids
scissors and pieces of scrap paper, they will enjoy cutting little pieces to
“feed their animal”
-Use empty cardboard boxes to make a fort
-Make a fort out of pillows, blankets and
chairs
-Read books
-Use condensed milk to paint with
-blow bubbles
-Paint on the grown with water-give kids a
paintbrush and a bucket of water
-Sidewalk chalk
-Mix cornstarch and shaving cream for a fun
mixture to play with
-Use fingers in salt or sugar to trace numbers
and letters
-Make a fishing pole with a magnet on the end
and place paper clips on different shape cutouts and have them fish for them
-Stack paper or plastic cups
