Broken bone #1

Kyler got a trip to the ER on Sunday night. It was not fun. We ended up with a broken arm in a splinter and sling until Wed when he will get a hard cast on. I was telling Deric this is my first real broken bone in the sense that growing up I can never remember ANY of my siblings having a broken bone and I never did (knock on wood). So it was a little new for me. Let's just say, my son is a tropper and I really hope our kids take after my side of the family and don't have many broken bones cause momma doesn't like it! Here's the story of how we THINK he broke it:

On Saturday night around like 6 or so, Deric ran to the store to get some stuff for dinner and I was playing with Kyler. He tripped over the foot of our baby swing and fell. Nothing too big, not a huge fall, nothing of any real significance. Well he started crying and wanting Deric. I could not console him (which is really weird for him). I thought he was just throwing a tantrum cause he has done that more lately that he usually does. So I call Deric and he comes home. We check him over, can't see anything suspicious. Kyler tells us his hand "had a sliber" (sliver). Now let's mention that if there is ANYTHING on any body part or that it gets even bumped, it then has a sliver and has to have immediate attention. So this being the norm behavior for him, we didn't think anything of it. We give him some Ibuprofen just in case he did hurt something and we continue to try and console him. The only thing that remotely worked was going outside. Deric gave him a blessing but it didn't seem to calm him down much.

Saturday night he didn't sleep hardly at all-which left a cranky and tired kid and I think an even more cranky and tired mom.

Sunday we looked him over again-still couldn't see anything. When we go to church, we notice that he isn't using his left hand as much-he was still using it, just not as much as his right. So we thought maybe he just bruised or maybe sprained it since it wasn't swollen or anything. Then we go to Neola at Deric's parents house for dinner and Kyler was jumping on the tramp. He just stumbled and fell over(not off the tramp, just over) and he started crying hysterically again, this time, not moving his left arm hardly at all from his chest. Deric felt like we needed to take him in to the ER cause his arm was broken. It was a tiny bit swollen, but not much. I thought we could wait until Monday to avoid ER costs (isn't that horrible?) But I really didn't think it was broken.

Anyway, we take him in and as we were waiting, I touch it and it starts crying and whimpering-ok maybe his arm really is broken. Then the nurse comes and feels it-he doesn't even budge. No cries, no whimpers, nothing. Okay...maybe it's not broken. Then the doctor comes in and feels it and Kyler flinches...okay...maybe it's sprained? We get X-rays just to be sure and sure enough-he arm is most definitely broken! His forearm (radius) something like that is broken, but it's called a buckle break and should heal pretty fast. The doctor told us that this is the most common break in children and it's so hard to detect as a parent because at this young of age, they can't really tell us that much and he's getting to the "faking" stage. So he got a splint and a sling (which is so dumb for a 2 year old-like he keeps it on!) He is supposed to wear it 24 hours a day, but seriously, I can't keep it on him for more than 30 minutes! He wiggles his arm out of until he pushes it to his back. Plus we were worried with him sleeping with it, cause we didn't want him to get strangled or anything. So I'm following doctor's orders as much as possible with an almost 2 year old!

We go in Wed morning to see his regular pediatrician to get the hard cast on. Here are a few pictures (all that I took on my phone) from the eventful day. He HAD to show Lissa his "brokden arm" hah it was cute!

I'm so lucky

Today as I've been sitting home, waiting for Deric to come home, as always, I got thinking about how lucky I really am to have him. He is such a great husband and dad but more importantly, my best friend. He does so many little things for me every day to try to make my life better-especially lately as I have been struggling. He knows I'm doing my best and that's all he asks of me. I love that he sits up late with me talking while we eat oreos and milk. I love that he is so willing to run to the store for me for the one single item that I NEED to make dinner with that I just happened to forget. I love that he loves to laugh and have tickle wars with me and Kyler. :) I love that he tells me I'm beautiful every single day (let's face it-I'm on my 2nd kid-my body is NOT beautiful) I love that he has taught our son to tell me that he loves me and he knows EXACTLY when I need a hug. I love that he is working SO hard to provide for our family. I love that he tries to please everyone (let's be honest-that part can be kinda annoying, but it's cute too) I love that he tries to hard to feel our baby kick and talk to him. I love watching him play sports with Kyler (who absolutely adores him). I love watching him get excited and dressed up for church (yes I still love the missionary style) I love when he does the dishes without me asking him to. I love when he cooks for me. I love when he pops in to see me just out of the blue. I love that he doesn't expect me to have a "barbie" doll figure or to look like her. I love that he lets me experiment with my own things. There are so many many things I could say that I love about Deric. I really am SO lucky to have him for my eternal companion. I guess I have just realized lately that we need to focus on the positive and the many blessings in our lives. there are ALOT more of those that there are of the crappy stuff!

4 years in Remembrance...

Well I had a pretty stressful and eventful day yesterday so I didn't get around to posting this like I had wanted to. Yesterday, August 17th, commemorated 4 years since my brother-in-law, Spencer, lost his life fighting a wildland fire. I guess I'm so full of emotions and different feelings right now that it's hard to know what to say. Spencer was the best example anyone could ever be and we miss him dearly. I keep looking towards my sister and the amazing grace and brillance that she has had throughout this whole ordeal. It is something she deals with daily and I have never seen her complain or go about life without a smile on her face. She is truly one of the most amazing women that I know! One can't but help to look at their 3 children. Each dealing with the loss of their father in their own way. Although they were still small when he died, they have an amazing remembrance of what he was like. They know their father! I am amazed at how well they have stepped up to the plate to help their mom, especially their son, Turner. Ultimately, we think of Spencer daily and love and miss him, but we know that we will be able to see him again! If you want to read more of his obituary and whatnot... here is a link....otherwise thanks for letting me share my feelings!

Baby names

I need some help. Deric is SO picky about baby names and EVERY name I like, he doesn't. So we're having a hard time coming up with a name for our baby boy. Now granted, I know I still have a couple of months, but I'm the type that HATES waiting until the hospital to decide on a name. Plus we don't like generic, Jim, Joe, Bob, type names.... any ideas.... feel free to share!!!!

In the future....

....my son may look like this... .if he eventually gets his daddy's dark hair and grows a beard!

But for now... he's still clean shaven! :) He just LOVES his oreos and milk-also gets that from his daddy!

Short Lived Victory

So I was curious to see how much I've gained with this pregnancy as compared to my pregnancy with Kyler....let me just say.... I gained a total of 83 pounds with Kyler. 83!!! That's like almost a whole other person!! It was gross and let's just say... it was NOT all water weight unfortunately. So this pregnancy I decided I wanted to gain the healthy amount (generally 30-35 lbs) and not too much more if I could help it and well, I'm sure this is going to be a short lived victory for me... but so far.... duh duh duh.... I have gained a total of 5 pounds from when I started! (although I started this pregnancy like 15 lbs heavier than I did with Kyler, so we'll work on those 15 after the pregnancy as well) but I was really excited that I've only gained 5. For me, that is a big victory!!! I know I'm in the stage where I gain the most now so that's why I say it's only short lived. But here's to remaining active and staying healthy!!

It's OFFICIAL!

Well... I guess I better just start by saying... I was wrong. We are going to start buying PINK! Okay, okay, just kidding! But it was fun to say for once. :) We had our official ultrasound today and there is no doubt about it-we will be buying BLUE once again! Our baby is definitely a boy and proud of it! haha so far he is measuring just as he should and everything looks great! My lab results came back and everything looks good there too! So now just comes the waiting until December time (which will also mean by then I will have another semester of school done-wahoo!) Anyway, we got a DVD of the pictures and I'll have to put some up when I get a chance, but that will have to be later. Cause tonight I'll be playing VOLLEYBALL in an all-night tournament! I'm so excited to get playing again!! I have lots to do to get the house ready before I leave so Deric doesn't have an ultimate heart attack when he sees the piles of laundry I haven't folded :) Gonna go get on that....

Hogle Zoo

Last year my mother-in-law bought a grandparents pass for the Hogle Zoo and I got a card :) This means I get me, one adult and 6 kids into the zoo for free. Our sister-in-law, Deb, and her girls were out and we decided to meet up at the zoo on Friday while Deric was at salesmeetings. It was really fun and because I didn't pay for the ticket, it was nice not to feel like we HAD to be there ALL day in order to make it worth it. Kyler was kinda cranky at first, but he ended up having a good time. His favorite was the monkeys and the bird show. He kept going up to the monkey's and saying "hi monkey! How are you?!" really loud. It was funny. His favorite monkey was sleeping and we couldn't get him to come say hi. Before the bird show, they were playing music and Kyler and Michelle were dancing with each other. It was so cute! Although his favorite cousin is Nichole. He wouldn't leave her alone and he kept saying her name and showing her things. The day was great and we went early enough that there weren't too many people and it wasn't very hot. I think we will definitely go again!

We moved Kyler to a toddler bed last week and he LOVES it! haha he thinks he is so big to have a big boy bed. He only fell off once and does really good with it. He even thinks he has to play with his toys on it cause he loves it so much!
We got the hole dug for our addition last week and Kyler thought it was SO cool to watch it. This is what he did the entire day-well for like 3 hours while it was digging. haha my boy is such a boy!

Kyler loves his little chair that I got at a yard sale and loves to sit it up on top of the couch to watch movies

Pool time!

When we went to Parker, I bought Kyler a little kiddie pool. To be honest, it was a lot smaller than I realized (aren't things always that way on the box? ) anyway....he LOVES it! Here are a few pictures!

Pond Fun

Deric had sales meetings in Salt Lake this last weekend and Kyler and I decided to go with him. The hotel they always stay in is out in the middle of nowhere (in my opinion) and there is NOTHING but other hotels and a small gas station out by it. But they do have a pond with ducks so that brings up the entertainment business I guess. Kyler didn't quite know what to think of the ducks, and he only wanted to feed the ones in the water...but he still thought it was way fun to feed them. Afterwards, we walked to a little gazebo (sp?) and sat in the shade to wait for Deric's dad to show up so we could check into our room.
